Samantha Cristoforetti: an amazing astronaut

Samantha Cristoforetti is one of the most famous astronauts in the world. She was born in Milan in 1977 and grew up in Trentino. Since she was a child, she loved science and flying. She studied a lot: she got a degree in engineering in Germany and then she became one of the first female fighter pilots in the Italian Air Force.

In 2009, the European Space Agency (ESA) chose her to become an astronaut. From that moment, her life changed. Samantha did two important missions in space, on the International Space Station (ISS).

Her first mission was in 2014 and lasted almost seven months. During this time, she did many important scientific experiments. Her second mission was in 2022. During this mission, Samantha made history: she became the first European woman to be the Commander of the space station. She also did her first spacewalk.

Samantha is also famous because she communicates very well with young people. She speaks five languages and uses social media like TikTok to explain science. In her videos, she shows daily life in space, for example how astronauts eat or sleep without gravity.

Today, Samantha Cristoforetti is a role model for all young people. Her story teaches us that with hard work, study, and curiosity, we can achieve our biggest dreams, even reaching the stars.
